In this episode of The Dive Locker Podcast we learn how the differences in alternate air sources can make a huge impact in out of air emergencies.
Welcome To The Show!
Welcome to The Dive Locker Podcast, the podcast for dive professionals where we bring you the latest in diving industry resources that make you excellent at teaching techniques, risk management and dive business.
Well folks, I’m feeling strong today, so that means I’m going to tackle a highly debatable topic. And that is the debate of which is better as an alternate air source – the classic octopus or the alternate air source integrated on the BC inflator.
Although there are other configurations including pony bottles, SpareAir’s and the like, I want to discuss what the two most encountered setups would be for a recreational diver going into a dive center and getting their kit.
Now, just a heads up, I do not in any way shape or form recommend alternate air source BC inflator combinations. I don’t. Now before you go cursing and punching the dashboard of your car and running off the road; just like with everything I teach, you need to know the reasons why. You deserve a sound rationale. Otherwise it’s just a preference or opinion based on nothing.
I’m going to share with you the true problematic issues related to a false sense of security for those espousing the benefits of an AquaLung Source, ScubaPro Air2, Atomic SS1 and others.
So before you hit skip on this episode or email me with nasty grams, please listen, I think it will make a difference to you as a dive pro and to those whom you teach.
