In this episode of The Dive Locker Podcast we’ll focus on what it’s like to be a newbie in an activity.
Welcome To The Show!

Hey everybody welcome to today’s episode. on this rainy day in Fort Lauderdale. It’s great to be back and to have you here with me today. I’m back because last week I was on my family vacation with the fam. Those of you who have connected with me on Facebook have seen my posts of all our cool activities of hiking, whitewater rafting and kayaking as well as river snorkeling. And that in part is the source of today’s episode.
Now apologies if my episode last week came out on Friday of the week before instead of Wednesday. I tried to upload it and set it for a Wednesday release in my absence, but the date of the episode says Friday, and I was so busy having fun in the mountains of Tennessee that I actually did not check if it released on Wednesday or not. At any rate, sorry if there was confusion on the release date of last weeks episode.
I also want to give a shoutout to Stephen Frink and the team at Alert Diver magazine for featuring me in their member profile section. It was a great article and I’m so honored to have been featured. And thank you all who gave me props on my Facebook profile. I greatly, greatly appreciate that.
So today we are going to talk about being the noob. Newbie, newb, noob, or nub is a slang term for a novice or newcomer, or somebody inexperienced in a profession or activity. Well that was me again as we went whitewater rafting during our family vacation. Now we have been whitewater rafting for 11 years as a family, so we are not really noobs to the sport but we were to the particular river we were on – the Ocoee River where we did both the Upper and Middle Ocoee.
I was paying close attention to myself and what specifically I was focused on and then it hit me, it is really weird to be a noob at something. And how I can barely remember being a noob in scuba because it was so long ago – and I am getting old you know!! So today I want to reflect on what your students and divers are going through as noobs to diving.
