In this episode of The Dive Locker Podcast we learn why we shouldn’t be afraid to challenge our students.
Welcome To The Show!
Welcome to The Dive Locker Podcast, the podcast for dive professionals where we bring you the latest in diving industry resources that make you excellent at teaching techniques, risk management and dive business.
A couple weeks ago I had beer with a couple colleagues from the University. They are both professors and we are finishing up our semester. As we got to talking some scenarios of problematic students started to roll out.
They included a student that didn’t know how to open a zip file and another didn’t know how to open a PDF and they were both asking their professors how to do that. These are adults in college.
Now more than ever, kids and young adults are being cared to and pampered. Parents are shielding kids from harm but also even challenges. This produces entitlement as well as fear of doing hard things.
In this episode we discuss how we as scuba instructors need to preserve the ability to challenge students for their own growth and success.
