Welcome To The Show!
Welcome to The Dive Locker Podcast, the podcast for dive professionals where we bring you the latest in diving industry resources that make you excellent at teaching techniques, risk management and dive business.
First, I want to thank everyone who sent me messages regarding the previous episode teaching diving physics. Love to hear from you, and some of you are quite passionate about the topic. Huge shoutout to Alex Brylske who spent not only years at PADI College but at Florida Keys Community College. He had an extremely thorough curriculum including physics. And another person I was remiss to mention.
Do you remember how I said that I came out of my NAUI ITC as provisional for physics. Well I would have been literally a complete do-over of an ITC if it wasn’t for my amazing instructor trainer and friend Paul White! He texted me and called me out for not mentioning him. He should! Why because he absolutely poured into me formulas and calculations that I never heard of or even if I had heard of them, I failed at it. Paul was and is the best. He was even one of my groomsman in my wedding. Love you Paul!
Again, great comments from last weeks episode.
“So, it must be great to teach scuba at a university.” is a comment I get a lot. And the answer is yes, yes it is! Some of you listening do teach at colleges or universities and you know that true and will wholeheartedly agree with that. And then there’s a whole lot of you that would love the opportunity to teach at a college or university. Well – this episode is for you.
I have worked at three university diving programs. The University of Florida Academic Diving Program, Emory University Academic Diving Program, Georgia State University, and currently Nova Southeastern University’s Academic Diving Program. In fact, working at UF, Emory and Georgia State gave me the experience to build the NSU Academic Diving Program from the ground up.
This is an area that is near and dear to my heart and I want to share some tips and techniques for you to approach colleges and universities to teach diving programs at them.
