Welcome To The Show!
Welcome to The Dive Locker Podcast, the podcast for dive professionals where we bring you the latest in diving industry resources that make you excellent at teaching techniques, risk management and dive business.
When I went through my instructor course, I came out provisional. That means I almost passed! I was provisional in the academic area of Physics. Now I went through a NAUI ITC in the late 80’s so it was pretty heavy on diving physics. Then, once you suffered through it, you felt obligated to punish I mean, teach, others about it.
Well for me it was easy to justify. I began my career in academic diving and I am still in it today teaching diving at a university. So, to justify credit hours issued by a university there has to be way more taught than is in the standard books, videos and/or learning from a scuba training agency. So in an Open Water Diver course there will be a greater than normal amount of emphasis put into the theory areas of physics, physiology, decompression theory, equipment and environment.
But outside of the university setting in “regular” scuba classes how much of diving physics should be taught. That is what we’re gonna discuss today in this episode.
