In this episode of The Dive Locker Podcast we discuss the economics of being a dive instructor with Darcy Kieran.
Welcome To The Show!
Welcome to The Dive Locker Podcast, the podcast for dive professionals where we bring you the latest in diving industry resources that make you excellent at teaching techniques, risk management and dive business.
So why do we do what we do? Why are we dive professionals? Well, we’ve heard the answer again and again. It’s not about the money, it’s about the lifestyle. Although that may be a true statement for many, there is a bottom line to this lifestyle. It involves training, equipment, annual membership dues and insurance. And then what about if we’re so passionate about diving that we feel being a dive pro should be what we do full time?
You see this is where the passion for the profession collides with the costs of being a professional. So, naturally we want to be in a position where we can do this job we love, but we also would like to eat and live indoors! That’s where the economics of being a dive pro kick in, and this is an area of extreme passion for my friend and industry colleague Darcy Kieran.
Darcy is the founder of the Business of Diving Institute and he is conducting a large-scale industry-wide survey for diving instructors regarding the economics of being a diving instructor. So today we hear from Darcy about this new survey, what its all about an how you can help contribute to it. By the way I just did the survey and it took less than 10 minutes.
